AESTHETICS OF TASTE IN POETRY: AN ANALYSIS OF
SYAIR NEGERI PATANI

Abstract
Syair Negeri Patani is a literary treasure rich in aesthetic value. Aesthetics of taste in poetry is a
deep and emotional embodiment of art in creating a relationship between the writer, the work and the
reader. This study was conducted to identify and analyze the existence of aesthetics in Syair Negeri Patani
by using bibliographic methods and text analysis. Findings show that there are various feelings expressed
and expressed in the poem. So it involves four main feelings, namely sadness, anger, love and joy in
accordance with the chosen Phenomenological Taste theory. The study also reflects that the words,
expressions or symbols used can create a variety of tastes born from the aesthetic experience of both the
writer and the reader. Based on this study, it can be concluded that aesthetic experience has a close
relationship with the production and appreciation of poetry. The application of Phenomenological Taste
theory in this poem has succeeded in creating an aesthetic experience that is very enjoyable and gives a
deep impact to the reader.

Pengenalan
Menurut penyataan Za’ba (1965:228; 2000:687), syair ialah karangan yang disusun perkataannya
berangkap-rangkap dengan sukatan dan bertimbang serta mempunyai pertentangan bunyi sama di hujung
tiap-tiap sekeratnya. Lazimnya, syair mengandungi fikiran yang cantik dan tinggi dilafazkan dengan bahasa
yang indah dan berhias hingga dapat menggegar perasaan atau membangkitkan rasa menggelepar
dan gembira dalam hati.
Syair sejarah adalah sebahagian daripada karya historiografi Melayu yang telah lama berakar bumi dalam
tradisi kepengarangan istana Melayu. Karya yang menyentuh sejarah Melayu Patani sudah banyak
dihasilkan oleh para sarjana sama ada dari Timur dan Barat. Namun yang menulis dalam bentuk syair
masih sedikit jumlahnya. Malah isu yang berkaitan dengan sejarah perjuangan bangsa sentiasa dibicarakan
