ABSTRACT

Art craft skills are also among the skills that contribute in the production process of craft art
products, sets and props in theatre staging. Craft skills are areas that requires the experience and talent
of a designer, maker and craftsman to ensure that the craft art of the product created is produced in
accordance with the design goals, but the participation of the younger generation to be active and
participate in the field of craft art, product performance art is still in small numbers due to the field of
theatre art in particular still being among secondary field of the country. Abilities and talents require time
and exposure for potential designers to become proficient in the field of craft art product production sets
and props. Craft art has the potential to be developed in achieving and contributing to the improvement
of the national economy as well as encouraging and becoming a tourism attraction in Malaysia. This
research methodology applies a qualitative method that suit with the process of data collection and
analysis section. Research into craft art in the production of set art products and props through the use of
recycled material elements (newspaper) became a choice of materials used in several theatre productions
in order to make a performance creatively and innovatively in line with the call of the government and the
National Cultural Policy of Malaysia (DAKEN) which emphasizes the core of development from the aspect
of shaping the country's art, culture and heritage to be more competitive in the future.
