Introduction

Research on an exploration of implementation recycles item (newspaper) through craft arts skills as
to provides a special props for theatre performances in Malaysia is a research that focuses on the
application of craft skills in the production of props used in theatre performances. There are several
theatre productions that were selected as research case studies where it was also found to have the
application of craft art techniques in making props among the selected productions consisting of the
Traditional Theatre Bangsawan Puteri Sa'adong (2021), the Traditional Theatre Mek Mulung Lakhon Dewa
Muda (2023) and also the Musical Theatre Che Yah Tanjong Malim (2023). The three selected productions
have similarities in performing the art craft skills of designing props in the performance. All three
productions also have in common that they are run by Malaysian students who are studying in the field of
theatre performance. All productions also pay attention to the visual aspect of the stage which is a priority
for student evaluation, especially emphasizing quality from the aspect of artistic design. The research on

special props for theatre performances in Malaysia has several research objectives which are focused on
identifying the application of product production craft skills in theatre performances. The research also
includes aspects of research on the technique and production process of a props art design in a theatre
performance. In addition, the research also looked at the impact and effect of the application of product
production craft skills in theatre performances, especially the functional aspects and specifications of
creation. The field of design that involves craft skills has its own challenges and problems, among which
creative ideas require the time, experience and imagination of a designer to produce an innovative design
concept, which in Malaysia is still lacking or limited with expert energy that is able to produce ideas and
concepts that are creative and innovative in the field of theatre artistic design. Najiffaizal Mohd Tawel,
(2015) also states that "the expertise or technical skills of the theatre arts is still at an unfamiliar level with
foreign countries such as Hong Kong or western countries that are far superior to producing specialists in
technical stage and theatre.’’ The presence of designers who have creative and innovative ideas starts from
theoretical knowledge which then gains experience after experience in the field of creative art which
requires time and prolonged exposure. There is implementation and exposure of the community to the
field of creative arts in Malaysia but there is still minimal openness of sharing and the community itself
lacks awareness of the importance and benefits of creative arts. Hashim, (2019) also stated that ‘’by
referring to various written materials, it proves that writings on technical designs of special effects of
theatres have not been implemented widely and extensively.’’

The success of the production of a creative and innovative idea on a product is actually influenced
by the synergy, cooperation and understanding of knowledge from designers and good production experts
who have experience, exposure to knowledge, academic background related to a specific field of design
art and a person's talent but the response and encouragement from the authorities is also important in
providing creative art channels to the community and the new generation to maintain the quality of
workers or designers in creative and innovative fields. Emphasis and disclosure about the importance of
the process of developing creative and innovative ideas among the new generation should be enhanced
by implementing all efforts from the community and the government in giving birth to an aware generation
and practicing the production of creative products with the best aesthetic value of artistic art.
Encouragement and recommendations in the field of creative arts from the authorities can give confidence
