In addition, this program emphasizes meaning or understanding as well as accuracy in all learning
activities for all subjects in all grades. The higher-level thinking proposed by Bloom's taxonomy (1956) is
also emphasized in all subjects and all grades. The students not only learn to remember but to be able to
               analyze, compare, and be creative.

Lesson planning, teaching methods, and instructional materials development

In the Patani Malay-Thai MTB-BE program, the development of lesson planning, teaching
methods, and instructional material occurs locally through workshops involving parents, teachers, local
language experts, religious leaders, and technical advisors. This is a way to ensure that the learning
activities in the lesson plan and the content of instructional materials reflect the religious and cultural
               values of the community.

The materials take many forms and are used with specific teaching methods, such as big pictures
(featuring cultural scenes), listening stories, and picture stories to stimulate discussion. Patani Malay
primers and Patani Malay Thai transitional primers are used to improve accuracy in reading and writing,
big books for shared reading experiences, small books for small group and individual reading, and there
               are also songs and games.

The instructional methods and materials designed to be used throughout the various stages of
               language development are:
                       - Listening/Speaking Patani Malay: to develop cognitive skills, intelligence, creativity, and self-
confidence in early childhood, picture stories, big picture (featuring cultural scenes), matching materials,
listening stories, songs, and role plays.

                       - Reading/writing Patani Malay: alphabet charts, primers, big books, and small books.

                       - Listening/speaking Thai: Total Physical Response (TPR) (Asher, 1996) of various kinds and levels.
                       - Reading/writing Thai (transition): Thai primers, diglot books, and Thai-graded reading books.

                       - Thai language textbooks for various subjects are introduced with Patani Malay exercise books.
