2) Instructional materials focus on developing listening and speaking skills in the Patani Malay
language and reading and writing skills in the Jawi and Rumi scripts. They produced instructional materials
of three types: storytelling and picture stories for listening and speaking skills, and big books for reading
and writing.
- Storytelling stories are used to develop listening skills and comprehension, including system
thinking and critical thinking. The writers are community members, and the content is about history or
moral stories. They are written in Patani Malay, Jawi, and Rumi scripts. The length of the stories is around
half A4 paper length.
- Picture stories consist of 4 - 5 pictures per story. We use them for developing higher-level
thinking by describing the stories in the pictures and explaining what is happening in the picture.
- Big books are used for reading with the whole classroom. The characters of big books are
big in sizes (A3), with colorful pictures to motivate and make students confident in reading. There are
repeat words in sentences that children can memorize.
