The integration of EESD into natural resources and environmental policies,
and other public policies would enhance the role and status of EESD and allow EESD to
become more visible and yield concrete results in preventing, mitigating and solving
problems. Such integration should be carried out at both national and local levels.

A good starting point is the policy/strategy that EESD can be made a significant
contribution such as the environmentally friendly production and consumption strategy.
In the initial phase, focus should be on local administration where it is possible to
                 realize quick and concrete results.

                        4. Network management and empowerment
This strategy is linked to most other strategies and is therefore a critical
success factor for a successful EESD development in Thailand. It aims to turn target
groups into participants in the EESD movement.
There are many different types of networks. Some are sector-based, issue-
based, area-based, etc. EESD network management should be decentralized to allow
for nodes with different interests, characters and styles. Individuals and organizations

that share similar interests would join the same node and are likely to exchange
knowledge, experiences and participate in joint activities. Moreover, it is more effective
for EESD to link up with existing networks that share some common interests rather
than establishing a new, stand-alone EESD network.

                        5. Social marketing
EESD is hardly a “hot issue” that captures news headlines or attention from
the general public. But EESD needs continuous implementation to bear fruit. Thus, a
social marketing strategy is needed, especially when cooperation from the private sector,
especially large corporations that are concerned about their public image and public
                 attention and acceptance, is needed.

The social marketing strategy aims to put a constant spotlight on and adding
freshness and attractiveness to EESD. Some business corporations may see the
possibility to use EESD as their social marketing tool. An effective social marketing
strategy would help mobilize funding and other kinds of support for EESD, as well as
adding more actors and activities to the EESD movement.
