                                                         ABSTRACT
The space, or set, has been identified as a significant visual aspect in the design of theatrical
performances. The set design for the 2019 stage play titled Kopiah Putih & Gincu was executed with
excellence and demonstrated its significant worth at the Hari Teater Dunia Solo (SALAHATEDU)-Solo World
Theatre Day event held at Wisma Seni, Taman Budaya Jawa Tengah (TBJT), Surakarta, Indonesia. The space
located at Wisma Seni TBJT, called 'Pendapa', which is pronounced 'Pendopo', is an outdoor performance
area, characterised by a roof and tiled flooring, specifically constructed and utilised for theatrical
productions. The time provided for performance preparation and set-up was limited to 30 minutes. Apart
from the limited space and time aspects, the lack of cost and manpower also lead to problems in the set
design process for the touring theatre production. Thus, this theatrical project aims to demonstrate the
characteristics of mobility and flexibility concepts in set design for touring theatrical productions by
involving space, time, cost, and human resources through the practice-based research reflexivity as
method. The findings established the essential characteristics in set design for theatrical touring
production holds great significance as a guide and solution for individuals involved in performance design,
scenography, as well as related fields within the creative arts industry. The outcomes of this research
practice can guide practitioners and students alike in the process of conceptualising, researching,
implementing designs, or engaging in daily artistic endeavours as a practical tool.
