Rites and ceremonies
Rites can be defined as a precise of words that are well structured that symbolise
menaning while ceremony is an action that are performed. (Coenali, 2022). Dayung Borih has
this element in their performance during gawai. Through an interview that was held, it is
thought that Dayung Borih will recite rites and dance during the ceremony. According to the
Bidayuh belief, the purpose of this rite was to cool the earth's surface at that moment, so
attracting joyful spirits. The leaders of the rituals will cook meals for the spirits. The purpose of
the rites was to summon the essence of rice.
