knowledge which consists of human knowledge, culture, and society, (OECD 2002). This implies that
research is utilized to investigate facts, reconfirm the results of previous experiments, provide solutions
for existing or new issues, support theories, as well as propound new theories. Furthermore, research
involves knowledge building, carrying out experiments to find out the cause and effect of something as
well as to provide the basis for further studies.
The research primarily uses a qualitative approach, where the researcher collects some data to
analyze the popularity of instructional television in Malaysia. The aim of qualitative research is to gain a
comprehensive understanding of social phenomena in their natural environments. It relies on the direct
experiences of people as meaning-making agents in their daily lives and focuses on the why rather than
what of social phenomena. For the study of human phenomena, qualitative researchers employ a variety
of systems of inquiry, such as biography, case study, historical analysis, discourse analysis, ethnography,
grounded theory and phenomenology, as opposed to logical and statistical methods.
Figure 1: conceptual framework
Figure 1 shows that the popularity of DidikTV as instructional television in Malaysia is influenced
by the styles and presentation methods used to address the audience. The popularity of DidikTV was likely
influenced by several factors, including the quality of the educational content, the accessibility of the
channel, and the extent to which it met the needs of students and parents. It's possible that the popularity
of the channel varied over time and in different regions of Malaysia.
Finding
DidikTV is a television channel in Malaysia that was launched on February 17, 2021, as an initiative
to support remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was designed to provide educational content
for students who may not have access to online learning resources. During the pandemic, many countries
have faced challenges in ensuring that students continue to receive an education while schools are closed.
Malaysia, like other nations, has implemented various measures to support remote learning.
DidikTV was introduced as part of Malaysia's effort to provide educational materials to students
who may not have access to the internet or online learning platforms. DidikTV broadcasts educational
programs that cover various subjects such as mathematics, science, history, languages, and more. The
channel is available for free and can be accessed through terrestrial television, satellite, and online
platforms.
