ANALYSIS OF THE APPLICATION OF

KOD JAWI IN THE FIELD OF ARCHITECTURE - MALAY CARVING

ABSTRAK

History has proven that Jawi writing has long been a writing that allows the exploration of new
knowledge to take place, especially knowledge from the Al-Quran. Since it was introduced in the
archipelago, a lot of knowledge has developed using Jawi writing. But now, the exploration of knowledge
using Jawi writing is less practiced and even the study of Jawi writing is now mostly focused on its art. The
study of tadabbur Al-Quran that has been done for more than 15 years ago by researchers from Maahad
Tahfiz Al-Quran lil Muttaqin has produced a new discovery called Kod Jawi. The Kod Jawi is a language
meaning system that allows the exploration of knowledge using Jawi writing to thrive again. The objective
of this paper is to analyse the application of Kod jawi to the meaning behind the word ‘Ukiran Melayu' and
its connection with Malay carving philosophy. Qualitative methodology with content analysis techniques
of Kod Jawi and in-depth interviews were used in this study. This study found that this Kod Jawi has great
potential and can be used as a mechanism to explore and understand the philosophy behind Malay
carvings. With this study, it was found that Kod Jawi can pave the way for Jawi writing to become relevant
again as a basic writing in the exploration of knowledge and can continue to analyse the relevance of Kod
Jawi in the exploration of knowledge in other fields.
