culture, and environment as integral components of a transcendent understanding. In essence,
illumination, in Al-Ghazali's view, is not merely an epistemic concept or a spiritual dimension. It represents
the profound realization of the world's fundamental duality, where the seen and unseen coexist, and
spiritual growth leads to a deeper comprehension of this intricate relationship.
3. Traditional Malay Houses
Traditional Malay houses a house manifestation of their thoughts, beliefs and religions that shape
their worldview. Thus, Islamic religion as the faith and customary practices of the Malay “adat” is the main
domain in the formation of a traditional Malay house. The term “architecture” is the manifestation of the
society and their cultural practice which reflects the society’s way of life, their belief and philosophy; ‘all
encompassing; forms important components in the uniqueness of a culture’(Rashid et al. 2021). The arrival
of Islam to Malaya at the arrival of Islam between the late 13th and early 14th century, was a new light for
the Malays (Jamilah Othman, Noor Hanita Abdul Majid, 2017). In the event of Islam's arrival in the Malay
Archipelago, the ways of Islam were adapted to the lifestyle of the Malay community. It's part of
modernizing traditional Malay thoughts (akliah) which is influenced by Islamic thought and meaning
behind it (Adibah Yusuf et al. 2021). Furthermore, Jamal (1992) wrote, to know the true appearance of
something, one must explain the appearance through the radiance of his soul and receive the light that
radiates from all things that exist, the real and the unseen." (pp. 2).
One of the manifestations of Islamic influence in the traditional Malay lifestyle can be identified
from light understanding and space creation based on the relation of religion, culture, and environment
with sustainable concept of triangular structure relation of Hasbulminaallah (Creator), Hasblumminannas
(man and man) and Hasbulminal’alam (man and environment) into house design construction with this
symbolic relation meaning (Majid, 2017).
