3. METHODOLOGY

Qualitative research design was implemented in this study. The data were collected through
interviews and observations on three case studies which are the cultural shows in Encore Malacca,
Rainforest Fantasy Putrajaya Hall and SCV itself. Convenience sampling was utilized in gathering the data
needed for this study. Since in-depth information about auditorium design and performance structure
were needed, interviews and observations were conducted with respondents that can give an insight on
the issues. The researchers interviewed visitors and a choreographer/ art director/ officer at SCV to gain
their perspectives. An interview was also conducted with an officer at Encore Malacca. Apart from
observing the performance structure, the observation was also done as a visual survey on the auditorium
design. Pictures were taken to provide the layout of each auditorium. The discussion for auditorium
design was divided into three distinct parts, which were basic plan form of an auditorium, audience to
stage relationship and seating geometry. The basic plan form of the auditorium was analyzed and
