Thesis Title Educational Thoughts of Muhammad Bin Sahnun and Burhanuddin
al-Zarnuji and Their Application in Islamic Private Schools

ABSTRACT
This research aimed to study 1) Ibnu Sahnun and Burhanuddin al-zarnuji
biography 2) the educational concepts of Muhammad bin sahnun and Burhanuddin al-zarnuji
3) the religious teachers’ level of expectation towards Muhammad bin sahnun’s and Burhanuddin
al-zarnuji’s educational concepts application in Islamic private schools 4) the application methods
of Muhammad bin sahnun’s and Burhanuddin al-zarnuji’s educational concepts in Islamic private
schools. The qualitative data was collected from documents, in-depth interview, and group
discussion of 17 knowledgeable people and the quantitative data was from 278 key informants.
The research findings:
Muhammad ibnu Sahnun was Abu abdillah Muhammad bin Abi sa-id sahnun bin
Sa-id bin Habib bin Hisan bin Hilal bin Bakar bin Rabi-ah attanukhi, born in the year 202 A.H.
among academic atmosphere family in Gka-dad village, Querowan city. The Gka-dad village was
a spreading area of Mazhab Maliqi. He passed away in the coast of Tunisia in the year of 256
A.H. after 16 years of his father death. His graveyard was in Querowan.
The word zarnuji had the origin from zarnuj which was the name of a city in
Persia in which a capital city of Assajistan in the ancient times. Al-zarnuji had grown up among
diversity of traditions, cultures and knowledge and he was absorbed by Arabic language. He
passed away in the year of 591 A.H.
Muhammad bin sahnun’s educational concept emphasized on Quranic teachings
and required characteristics of the teachers for teaching students. Furthermore, his concept
concerned about the importance of study objectives, curriculum, teaching methods, teachers and
learners.
