Secondary Schools in Pattani Province

ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at: 1) determining the level of Islamic studies teachers’
problems in teaching and learning Islamic studies in public school under the Development Project
of Islamic Studies Learning and Teaching in Primary and Secondary School (DPILTPSS) in
Pattani province pertaining to the curriculum and its implementation, organization of teaching and
learning activities, utilization of instructional media, and measurement and evaluation, 2)
comparing the level of Islamic studies teachers’ problems in teaching and learning Islamic studies
in public school under DPILTPSS based on differences in sexes, ages, degrees of education,
experiences in teaching, and 3) studying the needs of Islamic studies teachers’ in teaching and
learning Islamic studies in public school under DPILTPSS.
The population of the study was composed of 228 Islamic studies teachers. The
study instrument, questionnaires, was divided into 3 parts. Demographic data was solicited in the
first part. In the second part, the 5-Likert-type questions were asked for the determination of the
level of Islamic studies teachers’ problems in teaching and learning Islamic Studies in public
school under DPILTPSS. The last part, collecting data of teachers’ needs, was open ended. The
parameters used for a data analysis was based on a percentage, a mean and a standard deviation.
The findings of this research are as follows:
1) In overall, the level of Islamic studies teachers’ problems in teaching and
learning Islamic studies in public school under DPILTPSS was moderate.
Considering its individual aspect of the level of Islamic studies teachers’
problems in teaching and learning Islamic studies it is found to be moderate
in the curriculum and its implementation, organization of teaching and
