ABSTRACT
Traditional Malay wood carving is a highly esteemed handicraft that has been passed down through
generations in Malay society. It is a manual technique that showcases the skill and experience of the
craftsmen. However, in recent times, Malay wood carving has been misinterpreted and simplified,
resulting in the abandonment of the essence of traditional Malay wood carvings in an unethical manner.
This paper aims to discover the relationship that exists in the context of Islamic values and traditional
Malay wood carving. Its objective was to identify the correlation connecting Islamic values and traditional
Malay wood carving. The qualitative methodology was employed, involving the acquisition of data through
a critical review of traditional Malay wood carving and its analysis through content analysis. The findings
have revealed the existence of a systematic sequence in the relationship between Islamic values, Malay
society, and traditional Malay wood carving. Preserving this relationship and its knowledge might help
improve awareness in current Malay society regarding the importance of the systematic sequence
between the spirit of Islam, Malay society, and Malay woodcarvings.
