experts will also be given specific instructions and functions related to the study. Study Design for both
groups will be exposed to a space, presumably related to art or cultural practices. Art experts and non-art
experts will both receive instructions and functions that are relevant to their respective expertise or
academic backgrounds. The study will likely examine how these two different groups of participants
experience the space and how their expertise or academic background influences their perceptions and
interactions with the space. The goal of such a study could be to understand how individuals with different
backgrounds perceive and interact with art-related spaces, and how their expertise or academic training
may shape their experiences. This can provide valuable insights into the intersection of art, culture, and
academic disciplines.
4.4 Material
Installation of the “NUR” utilizes timber as its primary material and is situated outdoors in a natural
landscape. Materials: The experiment or installation is constructed entirely from timber materials.
Location: The construction process took place on-site, in an outdoor landscape setting, allowing it to be
directly connected to the elements of nature. Light Source: The primary source of illumination for the
installation is natural daylight, particularly during the afternoon hours from 3 pm onwards. Physical
Characteristics: The installation consists of a single piece of artwork with specific dimensions: 2400mm x
7550mm x 3175mm. It has a unique flow and form that guides people in and out, serving various functions
within its space. Spatial Functionality: Although the circulation within the installation is linear, each distinct
space within it serves a specific purpose based on the underlying idea and concept. These spaces offer
different experiences to the audience, creating diversity within the installation. Audience Experience: As
visitors move through the installation, they encounter different characteristics and functions in the same
overall form but on different levels. The design allows the audience to interact with and experience the
changing qualities of natural daylight through openings in each space, immersing them in the radiant
quality of daylight. Overall, it seems like this installation is designed to provide a symbolic experience for
visitors, emphasizing a connection to nature through the use of timber and the incorporation of natural
daylight into the design.
4.5 Procedure
This research methodology combines practice-led research with qualitative data collection
involving both art experts and non-art experts. Practice-Led Research approach emphasizes the
importance of practical experience or creative practice as a primary mode of inquiry. This approach also
incorporating elements of phenomenology, particularly drawing from the perspectives of the philosopher
Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Involves participants experiencing the "NUR" installation, which appears to be an
art installation related to light and space. Participant Groups such Art Experts that individuals with
recognized expertise in the field of art. They have substantial experience and knowledge in art and art-
related practices, both internationally and locally. Non-Art Experts are participants who do not have
significant expertise in art. They are likely selected to represent the general population or individuals
without specialized knowledge in the arts.
The addition of a phenomenological perspective suggests that the study intends to delve deeply
into the lived experiences of participants during and after their interaction with the art installation. This
philosophical approach will likely influence the data analysis and interpretation, focusing on the subjective,
