ABSTRACT
Malaysian cinema-going culture has undergone significant changes with the emergence of the
One Stop Centre concept in shopping malls. This concept aims to provide a comprehensive entertainment
experience for all moviegoers under one roof. This dissertation explores the impact of the concept on
Malaysian cinema-going culture in contemporary times. I will also research the development of cinema-
going culture in Malaysia. Foods, amenities, and the number of cinemas in Malaysia nowadays. This
research will use qualitative research as the primary method to collect data and observation on the
findings. The research expects that the contemporary Malaysian cinema-going culture is still relevant even
with the abundance of online movie streaming platforms. My dissertation argues that cinema-going
culture in contemporary Malaysia remains strong through the concept of One Stop Centre, applied to
almost everywhere in Klang Valley, regardless of whether online movie streaming platforms are available
and an easier form of film consumption. Findings from the research will contribute to the study of
Malaysian cinema, specifically Malaysian cinema-going culture. I am suggesting more studies on Malaysian
audience behaviour, and the contemporary Malaysian cinema-going regarding films, genres, stardom and
auteur.
