occasions, such as when two or more people with a 60-year-old go together (Willis et al., 2012). For
instance, moving from some parts of Shah Alam to Kuala Lumpur may take about one hour and 30 minutes
if people prefer public transport. In contrast, people may choose to drive, which will only take about 30
minutes if the traffic is good or about an hour if there is heavy traffic. The cost will be almost similar to
paying the public transport fee if people choose a fuel-efficient car and carpool.
Many factors contribute to making better public transport planning, and one of them is measuring
the public's satisfaction with using the transportation mode. (Lättman et al., 2016) is proposing a better
way to develop accessibility by using people satisfaction rather than the conventional method of using the
size of people in a specific area. In some cases, the least densely populated areas may prefer public
transport due to many factors. One important reason is people's satisfaction with using public transport
as their daily usage. Some public transport areas are dangerous and have a high level of crime, and some
railway stations and bus stops are also unsafe to use.
Public transport in Malaysia has been developed in Kuala Lumpur as the city centre has networks
for various types of transport, such as buses, trains, and taxis (Das et al., 2013). Much research has been
done and most are discussions about the accessibility of public transport to health and education.
Discussions about people moving art places using public transport are always neglected. In developed
countries such as The United Kingdom, public transport was developed before the 20th century - making
the planning better compared to developing countries such as Malaysia and Southeast Asian countries.
Royal National Theatre is the most accessible theatre in London because of its convenient location, just a
few minutes from the south bank of the Thames, or the venue's seemingly unnoticeable proximity to other
public transportation links (Kelleher, 2005).
Thai audiences believe that public transport accessible location is not essential for viewing a show
that only covers 7.2% - whereas the interesting show covers 18.8% of informers (Thamkulangkool, 2021).
This statement is interesting because when most countries look for the best and closest public transport
near the art houses, Thai audience members have different opinions about public transport. However, the
art houses or buildings in Thailand are very well planned and work well with other attractions near places.
People can walk around and experience many things because most alternative art groups are close to each
other. In contrast to Malaysia, it is not walkable to move to many performing arts buildings. Thus, better
public transport accessibility is needed in a country. For instance, Istana Budaya, Dewan Bahasa dan
Pustaka, Panggung Bandaraya, and Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre are in different districts.
Research Methodology
This qualitative study involves the library's study of public transport and performing arts
worldwide and in Malaysia. Different types of conventional theatre space are chosen. The space will be
mapped with the closest public transport in the area. Moreover, the condition and suitability of public
transport are also assessed to see the mapping of public transport locations that will help art, culture and
heritage enthusiasts attend shows at the staging location. With the assessment, Istana Budaya is the
primary study subject representing mainstream shows and Malaysia's leading performing arts stage. The
suitability of the nearby public transport location and attractions near Istana Budaya will assist in
evaluating the Malaysian government's plans for Malaysia’s national theatre. This study also studied the
