ABSTRACT

Theatre and performing arts shows in Malaysia have more audience members in the city centre.
The quality of the space with high-end technology, such as Istana Budaya - a Malaysian National Musical,
has always been a performance style in this space. Shows in Istana Budaya may invite more people from
different demographics and economic backgrounds. Besides being the Malaysian national theatre, Istana
Budaya also has marketing strategies which assist the space in promoting its shows. Accessibility to public
transportation is one of the reasons for people to go and watch a show. Istana Budaya may have good
public transport accessibility. The latest train station nearby is also closer to the food court and walkable
to the performing art space. Some theatre spaces are further away from a train station. This factor makes
the audience members choose taxis or e-hailing as their transportation to the said space. The paper will
map public transportation accessibility, especially train stations near performing arts spaces. This research
includes library research on public transport in Malaysia and its relationship with performing arts places;
it may consist of safety, audience members' development and the sustainability of the performing arts.
