               number of people, list of mosque committee, simple report on Zakat collection and distribution,

               and regulations on Zakat applied in this village.

               Data  collected  from  focus  group  was  analysed  using  thematic  narrative  analysis  in  which

               important  themes  have  been  identified  and  grouped  to  provide  useful  reference  on  the  Zakat
               practices  of  Baan  Kota.  Content  analysis  was  applied  to  data  collected  from  documentary

               research.


               4.  Results and Discussion

               The results  in  this  study  cover  basic  information  on  Baan  Kota,  Zakat  model  practiced  in  the

               village, Zakat collection, Zakat distribution, marketing and database management system, issues
               pertaining Zakat practices, and possible solutions to these issues.


               Baan Kota Village

               Baan  Kota  is  located  in  Moo  7,  Thambun  Kampeng,  Amphur  Langu,  Satun  province.  230

               households live in this village with 450 inhabitants. 95% of the inhabitants are Muslims and the

               remaining  are  Buddhists.  The  Imam  of  this  mosque,  Imam  Prayun  Songkhaw  or  Muhammad
               Ja’iz bin Saad, has been appointed as the Imam 6 years ago. Most of villagers are private sector

               employees,  agriculturists,  and  a  small  number  of  them  are  government  employees.  For  those

               involved in agriculture, they own only small pieces of land usually less than 1 acre. Thus, they
               may not be categorized as agricultural Zakat contributors.


               Basic Information of Zakat Model

               According to the Imam of Baan Kota Mosque, Mr. Prayoon Songkaw, Zakat  fitra  is the only
               Zakat managed by the mosque committee. They were of the opinion that there are some people
               who may pay other types of Zakat, especially, zakat property to the poor directly. However, the

               number of those payers is small. The mosque committee therefore are not involved. They might

               consider  include  other  type  of  Zakat  in  their  future  collection  and  distribution.  3.00%  of  the
               collected  Zakat  fitra  is  required  to  transfer  to  the  provincial  Zakat  fund  managed  by  the

               Provincial Islamic  Council  of  Satun. The  mosque  committee  started Zakat  fitra  collection  and
               distribution 8 years ago. In addition, a savings fund group based in Baan Kota also pay 20% of
