Thesis Title The Administration and Management of Muslims’ Polygamy
Family in Muang District, Pattani Province

ABSTRACT
This research aims to study; 1) the Islamic family system and polygamy in
Islam, 2) The administration and management in the Muslims’ polygamy family in
Muang District, Pattani Province, 3) the problems and conditions of context which
affected the management of the Muslims’ polygamy family in Muang District, Pattani
Province. The research was conducted by using document and qualitative method, and
the data obtained from the case study of 10 families. The data was collected through
the in-depth interview and observations without participation. Analyzing the data was
done by interpretation the meaning of data and using a computer program of
ATLAS.ti to assist in data analysis and construct the conceptual level.
The results of this study were as follows:
1. Family system in Islam is a complete form. There are a clear goal, a
particular structure of the relationship and specific roles. The family, built on a
foundation of religion, is part of living up the religious teaching. In a particular
conditions Islam has allowed men to have more than one wife, but not more than four
wives. That was showing the completeness and comprehensiveness of the religious
commandments to fulfill the natural needs of humans being. The reason behind that
rules is to maintain morality in society and balance the necessity of social needs in
every age. Indeed men in each period must be implement the rules carefully and in
accordance with the real intention of religion, and should be conscious that there must
be investigation of responsibilities in the next world.
2. The management in the Muslims’ polygamy Family including; 1)
providing the wives and children fairly in time, livelihood and the other fundamental
rights, 2) relationship building among family’s members including the one between
wives, between father-children and among a children of different mothers, 3) teaching
of religious knowledge at level of husband to wives and also parent to children, 4)
emphasizing the upbringing of children is the responsibility of both the husband and
wife, 5) conflict management within the family by peaceful ways in accordance with
religious teaching, 6) management of emotional and stress by positively thinking and
emotional control under religious guidance.
