depression or mental disorders has been consistently reported (e.g., Kathol and Petty 1981; Langner and
Michael 1963; Nedd, Husaini, and McCorkel 1980), and Anhensel and colleagues (Aneshensel, Frerichs,
and Huba 1984) have shown that physical illness is a cause of depression both within and across age
groups. In this research, Turner & Noh (1988) emphasize through many other scholars, that there are
extensive reports on the relationship between impairment, particularly on physical illness with mental
disorders such as depression. The article mentioned the relationship between the illness and age group.
This was agreed by Lili Ji et al. (2021), however, she included gender in her findings. Lili et al. (2021)
examined the moderating effects of age and gender on the role of functional disability as a mediator
between pain and depression. She concluded that it is important to tailor strategies to different age and
gender groups to improve their effectiveness. As reported by WHO there are many types of illness that
have been diagnosed among PwDT called comorbidity. It means someone that has more than one illness
at once and is caused by underlying cause or risk factors or directly caused by another condition. Senra
and McPherson (2021) found that chronic illness is often associated with disability and is highly comorbid
with mental health problems, particularly depression.
The prevalence of depression in disability is higher than in the general population and is related
to several factors. Examples of disease-specific factors include the neurological sequelae of stroke, diabetic
disease (e.g., amputation), limitations due to vision loss from age-related eye disease, fatigue from
rheumatoid arthritis, and pain from cancer). Common factors found across conditions include premorbid
depression, past mental health problems, low social support, illness-related disability, multimorbidity, and
less adaptive coping strategies (Senra & McPherson, 2021). These articles by Turner & Noh (1988); Lili Ji et
al. (2021) and Senra & McPherson (2021) examined the relationship between disability and depression as
well as pointed to the importance of helping people with these conditions. Therefore, this study intends
to propose an alternative process in therapy for PwDA with depression. Based on these articles, the study
ascertained that there is a relationship between physical illness and mental disorders particularly
depression that is also caused by other factors. This study chooses adult who uses wheelchairs to run the
pilot study with a group of volunteers.
A preliminary study found that there are some existing therapies applying performing arts as
instruments to treat patients with mental health such as depression. For instance, Behavioral Therapy,
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavioral Therapy. Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Mindfulness-
Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Medications (American
Psychological Association, 2019, August). However, almost all those therapies are performed in a clinical
setting that includes Psychological treatment and structured systems. This paper aims to design an
alternative process of therapeutic by using some techniques in Dramatherapy and fused the essence of
Igal. Dramatherapy is widely practiced around the world and there are presently academic training
programs in Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Croatia, and the United States. O’Donnell (2004)
explores the integration of dance/movement with drama therapy techniques and provides a Winnicottian
facilitating environment for the physically disabled client. The study demonstrated on dance/movement
integrated with drama therapy techniques by providing an environment in which physically disabled
clients.
Emunah (2020) bridges theatre and psychology by creating a drama therapy through the
Integrative Five Phase model: (1) the healthful if not essential value of play; (2) the liberation afforded by
acting; (3) the need for laboratory space to rehearse, review, preview and experiment with real-life; (4)
the emotionally revisit, grapple with and heal deep-seated wounding; and (5) the containing,
