               Conclusion

This research found that two types of techniques and connecting tools are commonly used: tie
connecting tools and peg connecting tools, with various variations in connecting tool materials.
Furthermore, each connecting device has different advantages and disadvantages. The tie-type connecting
tool does not injure the bamboo, so it does not damage the bamboo and is easy to apply. The weakness
of the tie-type connecting tool works based on the friction force between the surface of the tie material
and the surface of the bamboo. The advantage of the peg-type connection tool is that it is more stable in
maintaining the position of the connection because the peg restrains the shear force that occurs. The
weakness is that the peg connection tool tends to cause the bamboo stems to break and be damaged in
the direction of the fibers parallel to the width of the cross-sectional dimensions of the pegs used.
However, it does not rule out the possibility of damage to the connecting tool.

Cuts made on bamboo stems cause the fibers to be cut parallel to the composition of the bamboo,
thereby reducing the performance of the bamboo. According to Morisco (1999), bamboo breaks or breaks
due to holes that create shear stress in the bamboo caused by using a peg connection system. Meanwhile,
the tie joint does not cause damage because there is no injury to the bamboo stem. The weakness of the
tie joints lies in the material used, both the bamboo material itself and the tie material, which experiences
material shrinkage and requires more complicated maintenance. Based on the discussion described above,
this research can be a basis for exploring various techniques and tools for connecting bamboo materials
in buildings in Java, Indonesia, so that new, more appropriate connecting tools can be found.
