Thesis Title The Roles of College of Islamic Studies, Prince of
Songkla University

ABSTRACT
This research aims to study the roles of the College of Islamic
Studies, Prince of Songkla University in eight aspects : 1) teaching and graduate
production 2) research 3) academic services for communities 4) art and cultural
preservation 5) learning center 6) social guidance 7) analyzing and warning system 8)
decisions concerning the principles of Islam. This study also seeks ways to develop
the roles of the College of Islamic Studies, Prince of Songkla University. The
questionnaire was used with a sample group of 200 people including religious
leaders, community leaders, government officials and private organizations in contact
with the College of Islamic Studies while the interview was used with five internal
and external staff of the College of Islamic Studies. Percentage, mean, and standard
deviation were applied for data analysis. The study found that the roles of the
College of Islamic Studies, Prince of Songkla University are at the middle level ( x =
3.27). The most roles of the College of Islamic Studies contribute to academic
services for communities ( x = 3.75) and teaching and graduate production ( x =
3.66). The least roles are decisions concerning the principles of Islam ( x = 3.19) and
analysis and warning system ( x = 3.05), respectively. The ways to develop the roles
of the College of Islamic Studies, Prince of Songkla University are as follows.
1. The College of Islamic Studies should expand its teaching in graduate
degree programs and other new programs in accordance with the needs of the
society, as well as increase its role in community teaching.
2. The College of Islamic Studies should develop itself to be a center of
research in Islamic Studies at the local level and produce more professional
researchers to serve the university's research policy and to become an excellence in
