2 The policy adopted by the university related to peace building are
manifested in 1) its academic programs and subjects to make students understand and

love peace, 2) its producing graduate in order to build peace in community through
various subjects and activities such as Qiyamullail (night religious activities), Quranic

learning group class, and training to make the learners exemplary in peace building at

local, national and international levels, and 3) its creating awareness in public mind with
relation to peace. In this case, Fatoni University attempted to function as a learning and

peace building institute in conformity with Islam through various publications and
academic forums.

3. Regarding the roles played by the university to promote and establish
peace in the three southern provinces, the study found that generally it is at very good

level. Individually, the highest mean level of the role conducted is in the administrators’

way of thinking. Secondary to it is producing peace-loving graduate. The initiation of
new peace-orientated program is at very good level. The suggestions resulted from the

research interview found that the university has its own way of thinking in peace building

at individual, family, community, as well as national and international level for the sake
of this worldly life and the hereafter. In realizing this aim, at first step it taught the

community religious knowledge through the slogan of Ummah Wahidah (One Nation)
and Ummah Wasata (Moderate or Tolerant Nation). The university also aims to imbue

students with Islamic spirit of loving and upholding peace in multi-cultural society.
