purpose of the opening dance of Mengadap Rebab. From my observation, it enriched the understanding
of why the Malays perform this traditional ritual in every performance. Therefore, the value of the
tradition is obvious through this collaboration. The reinvention was a process of self-discovery of my own
culture and through it I began to discover the importance of the ritual and initiating a focuses on tradition
and a better understanding of it as a “continuity with the past” (Hobsbawn, 1983, p. 1) Through the process
of reinvented ritual, there were exchanges of culture, experience, working systems. Understanding the
differences allowing us to arrive at a common point. Furthermore, the intercultural processes allow for
the development between two different cultures and traditions, finding their meeting place. In creating
an intercultural theatre, there are certain culture that can be amalgamated, however, there are also
elements that cannot be compromised or combined with others.
